Tristan’s practice primarily focuses on appellate advocacy, administrative and public law matters and complex estate and trust disputes. As a part of this work, he routinely provides legal opinions, research and legal writing supports for other lawyers.
He is called to the Bars of Ontario and British Columbia and has trial experience, including a jury trial. He has assisted clients with matters before all levels of court in British Columbia, before the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada.
Tristan’s estates and trusts experience is broad and includes contested applications for proving and propounding wills and other testamentary documents, section 58 (BC) and section 21.1 (ON) claims to ‘cure’ or validate a testamentary document as a will, incapacity claims, removal of executors, BC wills variation claims, rectification of testamentary documents, construction of wills and trust instruments.
Tristan’s public and administrative law experience is varied and diverse and includes judicial reviews of a variety of administrative actors, representing public bodies before British Columbia’s Privacy Commissioner, and the enforcement of letters rogatory, among other disputes. He also routinely act in matters relating to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and legal matters affecting people living with HIV, sex workers, and other marginalized communities.
Before starting his own firm, he practiced law at firms in Ontario and British Columbia, including a national law firm. While completing his Master of Laws at Columbia Law School he was awarded the Law Society of British Columbia Scholarship for Graduate Legal Studies.
